A tale of two a-tubulin tails
نویسنده
چکیده
Post-translational modifications of tubulin, such as the removal of the C-terminal tyrosine of a-tubulin, have long been proposed to influence the ability of microtubule motors to walk along the microtubule surface. This hypothesis has now been tested for cytoplasmic dynein-1 (dynein), revealing that active dynein–dynactin– adaptor complexes prefer to start moving on tyrosinated microtubules. This choice is governed by the p150 subunit of dynactin. Once moving, however, dynein is not choosy about whether the microtubule is tyrosinated or not.

An Architectural Tale of the Two Cities
A comparative study of the corresponding styles of Western and Iranian modern architecture has hardly ever been carried out in detail. This paper aims to sketch out an outline for such an investigation and to present a summary of empirical evidence accompanied by field observations to elaborate the ongoing trend of relationship between architectural styles in Iran and that of the West. This is ...

Polyglutamylation makes the cut L acroix et al. report that the addition of long glutamate side chains to tubulin stimulates microtubule disassembly by the microtubule-severing protein spastin. The C-terminal tails of tubulin subunits can be modifi ed in different ways, which might alter the recruitment of molecular motors and other microtubule-binding proteins. A family of glutamylase enzymes ...

متن کاملMicrotubules rich in modified alpha-tubulin characterize the tail processes of motile fibroblasts.
The organisation of microtubules rich in post-translationally modified alpha-tubulin has been investigated in a fibroblast cell line (NIH-3T3-T15) that can be reversibly transformed. An immunofluorescence microscopy study of the static non-transformed cells has revealed a central distribution of wavy microtubules showing post-translational modifications. When transformed there is a marked incre...
متن کاملMicrotubule C-Terminal Tails Can Change Characteristics of Motor Force Production.
Control of intracellular transport is poorly understood, and functional ramifications of tubulin isoform differences between cell types are mostly unexplored. Motors' force production and detachment kinetics are critical for their group function, but how microtubule (MT) details affect these properties--if at all--is unknown. We investigated these questions using both a vesicular transport huma...
